AccessCR announces the awarding of CCReW Support Scholarships to support the travel of 4 consumers to the COSA Cancer Survivorship Conference in Adelaide, 8-9 March 2023.

In the latest round of CCReW Conference/Event Scholarships, we specifically encouraged applications from people that felt they would be considered 'scarce' voices at conferences like this. We received requests for travel support totalling around $6000, and we were able to award approximately $3700, a slight increase over the planned $3600.  The recipients hail from  NSW, Qld, VIC and SA, and will bring a diversity of backgrounds and cancer experiences to the conference.

As previously, we were unable to cover the full costs requested by each of the recipients, nor for everyone that requested assistance. This demand suggests consumers want to attend conference to learn and network, but need financial support to do so. We need to continue to find ways to make conferences both welcoming of consumers, and accessible financially.

I would like to thank the Clinical Oncolocy Socienty of Australia (COSA) and Flinders University who offered to cover registration for one of the travel recipients, to help us stretch the budget to support to a fourth consumer to attend.

I would like to thank the CCReW Supporters without whom the provision of these scholarships would not be possible: Rare Cancers Australia for their financial, governance and operational support to the Scholarship Program, and Medicines Australia, TrialDocs, Lucid Health Consulting for their financial support on top of the financial and operational support we provide at AccessCR. We welcome organisations that would like to become CCReW Supporters and help make our support and capacity building activities for consumers taking part in and involved in research possible.

Here's a few words from a couple of our grateful scholarship recipients...

I am looking forward to hearing about the new technology and practices that benefit people with lung cancer like me. Wow, am I excited to have this opportunity.

I am so appreciative of this learning opportunity.  Without this scholarship I would not be able to attend.
